The Decision Journal Is Not a Crystal Ball: What Recording Beliefs Can and Cannot Improve

A dated decision record can preserve what a person believed before outcomes became known. But prediction quality requires probabilities, comparable questions and honest accounting for missing decisions—not just polished reflections.

Sleep Timing Variability: Why Seven Hours Do Not Guarantee the Same Next-Day Attention

Sleep duration and sleep timing are different variables. Primary studies of weekday–weekend timing, experimental sleep restriction and circadian phase show what next-day attention research can—and cannot—establish.

Caffeine Can Restore Alertness Without Erasing Sleep Debt

Controlled experiments show where caffeine can improve vigilance under sleep deprivation and where the inference to decision quality fails.

Uncertainty Is Not the Same as Threat: A Nervous-System Distinction

Experiments on unpredictable outcomes, ambiguity and acute stress show why uncertainty-related responses cannot be used as a generic fear meter.

Stress Changes Which Kind of Flexibility Works: Updating Is Not Switching

Primary cognitive experiments suggest stress can affect updating and task switching differently; examine what this means for decision research.

Sleep Inertia: Why the First Minutes After Waking Are Poor Conditions for Financial Judgment

Experimental sleep-inertia research shows why waking alertness and decision quality can diverge, without proving a trading-performance rule.

Trusting a Gut Feeling: Interoceptive Accuracy Is Not the Same as Confidence

Research separates detecting bodily signals, believing one is sensitive to them, and knowing when one's judgments are accurate.
